Game Design Expo Empty Game Design Expo

Post  AGreen Tue Jan 08, 2008 8:31 am

Hey everyone, ALL of you NEED to go to www.gamedesignexpo.com and register for the Open House on Sunday Jan. 20

I'm serious about this, it's a chance to meet some industry people, learn, network all that important stuff, we all need to attend this, I wish we could all attend the Industry Expo, and maybe next year we will, but there is no reason to not check out this open house.

I already registered a few weeks ago.

I registered last year too, but I had no idea where VFS is.

we should either go really high class or really low class....low class would be Muggs and Juggs by Douglas, and high class would be Cecils, downtown

Well, it starts at noon, so meeting for lunch means we'd have to meet pretty early, but I'm down if anyone else is, and hitting the peelers after actualy sounds like fun.

A few minutes in Google Maps revealed a few game-related places we might be able to go to following/before the expo.

A-Z Video Games
748 Broadway East, Vancouver, BC V5T 1X9
(604) 874-3919

VS Gaming Arena
124 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5T 1V9
(604) 263-4263

Grubby Games Inc
300-609 Hastings Street West, Vancouver, BC V6B 4W4
(604) 684-5566

I assume Grubby Games is a game dev company, but who's to be sure? Also, it is located relatively close to VFS. (Waterfront Station) The other two are on Broadway East, not TOO, TOO far away (I do not completely understand the scale of Google maps) away from the other venues of the Game Design Expo earlier that weekend. But at least I KNOW A-Z has the vidyah in good supply.

And the VS Gaming Arena... sounds like an arcade, but who knows?

The thing starts at noon and ends at four but I doubt we'll want to spend the whole four hours there, so we could meet up around 11 or so, grab some grub, check out a couple of those places Al mentioned, then hit the Open House. I'm not sure how much of it will be useful, and how much will be VFS promotion, but it's worth a look to find out.

Apparently it was overbooked and it's been split in two.

Check your email.

I like the earlier time better, but if everyone else likes the later time that's cool.

The afternoon one would be kinder than the morning one to those on the team who live further away than the rest, and ya know, if we did go in the morning, strip clubs that early in the afternoon would just feel tacky.

True, and it might kind of busy at the strip club with the after-church crowd.

I can't speak for everyone that lives further away (because a few people live further than me), but I don't see myself having any trouble getting from Surrey to Vancouver by 10:00.

I didn't see that, I agree, the later option would be much better.

Also, just in case I rsvp'ed for a group of 10 so the rest of you might not need to rsvp.

And from what I've read, this IS going to be almsot entirely VFS promotion, BUT it will give us a chance to play some of their student games, so I say we give those a shot, then boogie outta there.
